Bradley Doliner
named to US ODP Region 1 Pool - November 2007
Coastal's own Bradley Doliner was selected to the US ODP

Bradley was the only Maine male player from all age
groups to be named and selected for this honor.
Bradley is currently going to school at IMG Soccer
Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where he is living his
dream. He has taken on leadership responsibilities
as a rotating chosen Captain and has been training and
traveling extensively for the past few months, playing
entire games on top teams.
Bradley's father, Jim Doliner, wanted to wish everyone
at Coastal the best of luck in the upcoming premier
soccer season. "Coastal was such a big part of
Bradley's soccer and personal life, and was nothing but
an extremely positive experience for our entire family.
The training and coaching Bradley gained from Coastal
can never be underestimated in preparing him for all
these challenges."

Coastal Player Selected for National Camp -
July 2007
Congratulations to Allie Walton
(U14 Girls) for being selected to the 1993 ODP Region 1 Pool for
the second straight year.
Allie was also selected for National Camp being held in
California from July 30th to August 5th.
CONGRATULATIONS to Allie for an outstanding performance and good
luck in California!
Note from Jim Wade, Director of Soccer
Congratulations to
all the boys and girls teams that competed in Regionals. The entire Coastal organization is
very proud of what you have all accomplished, and special thanks
to the coaches, admins and players for bringing your teams to
the highest level of competition on the east coast.
Special kudos to the
U-12 and
U-17 boys for making it to the
semis, and to the 17's for an incredible finals match yesterday
with FC Delco, only losing 1-0.
Great coverage of those semis and finals were in the Portland
Press Herald and the Times Record,
highlighting coaches, players and Coastal in general.
8 Coastal teams made it this year, 5 boys and 3 girls, which is
an all time record for a premier club in Maine.
Next year, we are hoping for even more! Go Coastal!
U17 Girls win State-Cup
Title - June 12, 2007
On June 3rd, the U17G "Waves" won 3-2 over Odyssey on a
breakaway goal by Alex Laniewski with
13 minutes left in the game. Laniewski had a hat
trick for the game, scoring the other two goals on
penalty kicks. Odyssey pressured the the goal
throughout the game but the defense, led by keeper
Luci Pike and defenders Carolyn
Doane, Kerry Murchie, Vicki Fischmann and
Gillian Lane shut down Odyssey in the
second half to set the stage for Laniewski's third goal
of the game!
Coastal Storm U14B v.
Maine Metro Summary - June 12, 2007
On Saturday, June 2nd, the Coastal Storm played Maine
Metro in a State-Cup semi-final game in Brunswick.
In an evenly contested and exciting match, the two U14
boy's teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first
half. Early in the second half, the Coastal Storm
took a 1-0 lead on a break-away goal. Maine Metro
tied the game minutes later and subsequently took a 2-1
lead with approximately ten minutes left in the second
half. The Storm, battling to the end, tied the
game with just several minutes remaining in regulation
forcing the two 10-minute overtime periods.
Neither team scored in the first overtime period.
Near the end of the second overtime, Metro scored the
eventual game winner. Despite the disappointing
outcome for the team, it was one of the most exciting
and well-played games of the season for the Storm.
Coastal girls have an impressive
showing at Needham -
June 3, 2007
For the first time in the club's history,
Coastal Soccer Club sent its entire girl's division to a
single tournament - the Needham Memorial Day Tournament.
The club was represented at every level from U11 through
U19. The tournament turned out to be a fantastic
success, where the club bonded both on and off the
field.
Off the field, the club
held its first ever "End of Season Awards
Ceremony." This event took place at the
spectacular venue of Gillette Stadium
in Foxborough, MA. The girls were treated to
fantastic professional soccer followed by the ceremony
which took place on the actual game field.
Each team presented a player of
their team the "Player of the Season Award," assisted by
New England Revolution player Doug Warren.
See below for award recipients.
On the field our
teams showed some positive success with some impressive
displays.
The U15 girls coached by Ed
Thomas, continued their impressive season by
reaching the final game at the tournament. It was
a game they completely dominated until the final minute
where they conceded the winning goal to a direct kick.
It was heartbreak for the girls who really deserved to
win the whole thing. Special mentions must go out
to Quinn Curtin who scored some
important free kicks and to Liz Marcuse
and Sam Roy, who marshaled a defense
that only conceded 2 goals throughout the tournament.
The U17 & U18 girls
joined forces to create a U19 team that also produced a
marvelous display. The girls went 3-0 in the group
stages, defeating high caliber opposition with the likes
of MPS Boston Renegades. The girls were ranked the
number one seed going into the semi-finals. Under
the drive and determination of Ashley Michaud
and sheer brilliance of Alex Laniewski,
the girls showed tremendous heart to come from 3-1 down
against the mighty Rhode Island Rays to tie the game
3-3. Sadly the game went to a shoot out which saw
the girls make a premature exit from the competition.
Special mentions must go out to ZZ Leighton
who was the top scorer with 5 goals, and to
Caitlyn Butterfield who held a watertight
defense that only conceded 1 goal in the group stages.
The tournament was a huge success and a
big thank you must go out to all of the players,
parents, coaches and team officials that made all of
this possible.

Coastal teams head south over Presidents Day
Weekend
February 25, 2007
Three Coastal teams traveled to Florida over the
Presidents Day weekend, playing in the Score at the
Shore 2007 Tournament in Jacksonville.
The Coastal
U-17 Boys played four very good
games, winning two and losing two. The U17s lost their
first two games by close scores: Great Falls Rangers 89
(VA) 2, Coastal 1; and Futsoc USA Enigma (FL) 1, Coastal
0. They then turned it around, winning two games by
2-goal margins: Coastal 3, Colorado Storm Royal (CO) 1;
and Coastal 2, Eden Prairie Eagles Premier (MN) 0. The
team is off to a strong start to their 2007 season with
a good performance at an excellent tournament.
The Coastal
U15 Thunder also had a good
tournament in Jacksonville. In pool play, the Thunder
went 2-0-1 and won their bracket. They started off with
a 1-1 tie vs Futbol Select (FL), won the second game 1-0
over NFC Bellator (NE) and won their third game 3-2
against the Classics Elite (PA). The Thunder advanced to
the quarterfinals, where they played Eclipse Select
(IL), losing in PKs (5-3) after the game was tied 1-1
after regulation. Playing facilities/games,
accommodations, and everything about the tournament was
excellent.
The real story for the Thunder was that seven players
and families drove to Florida (20 hours) once they
realized their flights were not going to make it due to
the Valentines Day storm. A couple of families rented a
van and drove five players down, and two other parents
drove two players to Florida.
The U16 Hurricanes also traveled south, and had a
rough go of it, losing all four of their games. Starting
with an already short bench, including two guest players
from Eastern New York, the Hurricanes suffered a couple
of key injuries early in the tournament, forcing them to
borrow players from other Coastal squads. The 16s lost
their opener to Metro United Premier (IL) by a score of
2-0, and their second game to Dunedin Stirling Soccer
Academy (FL) ended 6-1 in favor of the Floridians. On
day two, they lost a close game to Greensboro SC 90
Green (NC) by a 1-0 score, and finished the day with 4-0
loss to HUSA Gold (IL) in the consolation match. As
experienced by the U15 team, travel to Florida was
troublesome, and one U16 family drove to Florida after
their flight was cancelled.
Coastal
Labor Day results
September 15, 2006
The Coastal Freedom U10 Girls team had a great
showing at the Cumberland “Just for Fun” tournament over
Labor Day weekend. The Freedom won all four of its
games, allowing only one goal on the day.
The Coastal Current U12 girls also turned in a
solid performance in the Cumberland Labor Day
tournament, where they played four 30-minute games on
Sunday in unseasonably cool and wet weather. Game one
ended in a 1-1 tie against Falmouth, with solid defense
and offense characterizing both teams. Game 2 was a 0-1
loss against a hard-charging and eager Cumberland (Rand)
team, with excellent goaltending on both sides keeping
the scores low. Game 3 against Yarmouth (Strabley) ended
in a 0-0 tie, with the Current looking a bit sluggish
but nonetheless thwarting several strong goal attempts.
Despite the onset of heavier rain, the Current rallied
in the fourth game with their best effort of the day,
beating a strong Bangor team 1-0. Bangor’s defense and
goalkeeping was solid and kept the Current from
registering a higher score.
Coastal Chaos U14 Girls shocked New
England, reaching the final of the 2006 Bandits Cup in
Devens, MA. over the Labor Day weekend.
The Chaos posted a 2-0-1 record in the
preliminary round. They started off strong, recording a
6-0 win in Game 1, and followed up with another strong
effort in the second match against the Boston Blast. The
girls took an early lead, holding a one goal advantage
until late in the game when a speculative cross from the
Blast turned into a goal. The game ended 1-1.
Coastal won its final game, 2-0, and advanced to the
Championship game on goal differential to meet the team
from Mass Premier Soccer.
In the final, the Chaos went ahead on a breakaway
goal in the seventh minute, but gave up the equalizer
five minutes later. Just before halftime, Coastal got a
go-ahead goal to take a 2-1 lead into the break. In the
second half, the girls thought they had extended their
lead to 3-1, only to have the goal disallowed on an offsides call. Minutes later, MPS tied the game 2-2, and
regulation time ended with the score tied. With a minute
remaining in the second of two five-minute periods, MPS
scored on a follow-up shot after a corner kick, earning
them a 3-2 win over the Chaos.
The Coastal Rage U9 Boys maintained their
stellar early season form by finishing the Cumberland
"Just for Fun" tournament with a record of 3-1. The U9
boys outscored their opponents 8-3 showcasing solid
defense and an attacking offense.
The Coastal Fire U11 Boys team began their
season prior to Labor Day with a 6-1 victory over
Yarmouth (Olsen) on August 27.
At the Labor Day “Just for Fun” tournament in
Cumberland, the Fire posted a 2-2 record, facing some
tough competition. In game 1, the Fire posted a 10-3
victory over Scarborough, but lost the second game 1-0
to Cumberland (Hart). The team rallied in the third game
with win over the Waterville Novas, 4-0. The day ended
with a 3-1 loss to the Cape Elizabeth Casco team,
despite some excellent team play.
The Coastal Crew2 U12 boys, reached the finals
in the 2006 Bandit Cup in Devens, Mass over Labor Day
weekend. The Crew 2 won their three preliminary round
games by scores of 2-0 vs Boston Bolts B, 1-0 vs
Scandinavian FC and 1-0 vs Boston Blast, advancing to
the semifinals where they beat Inter SC 1-0. In the
Championship match against the Boston Bolts A, the Crew
2 lost a hard fought and very physical game to the
undefeated multiple state champion Bolts, 0-2.
Coastal and NYA sign agreement
for use of turf field
September 15, 2006
North Yarmouth Academy and the Coastal Soccer Club
have reached an agreement allowing Coastal teams use of
NYA's newly installed turf field.
The 12-year agreement gives Coastal exclusive use of
the turf field on Sundays from March 1 through the first
Sunday in November. Additionally, Coastal, has right of
first refusal to rent the field on Monday through
Saturday during the period when the surface is not
being used by NYA teams.
Access to this all-weather surface will be a great
benefit to all Coastal teams, especially in the spring
when field conditions make scheduling practices and
games a challenge.
Crew2 take Scarborough U12 4 v 4 Lobster Classic
August 20, 2006
The Coastal Crew2 U11 boys squad won the 2006
Scarborough U12 - 4 v 4 Lobster Classic on August 12-13.
The Crew2, playing up, faced U12 teams from Connecticut,
Rhode Island and Massachusetts. There were twelve U12
teams in the event.
On day one, the Crew2 won two games, but lost once to
the team from Connecticut. The Crew2 was able to make it
to the winners bracket by winning their first two Sunday
games, earning them a trip to the championship game for
a rematch with the unbeaten Connecticut squad.
During preliminary rounds, Connecticut had outscored
its opponents 45-5. In the Championship match, the Crew2
held Connecticut scoreless, winning 4-0 to earn the
Championship banner. The Crew2 is coached by Jim Wade.
Coastal players selected to
Region 1 ODP Pool
July 20, 2006
Brad Doliner, a member of the Coastal U15 Hurricanes,
has been selected to the US Youth Soccer Under 15
Olympic Development Program Pool Team. (Press
Release).
Coastal's Cody Zane was also named to the Olympic
Development Program Pool Team. Cody, a member of the
Coastal Boys U16 team, was named to the U16 (1990) ODP
pool team.
Allie Walton, who will be returning to her former
team, the U14 Coastal Tornadoes (now the Chaos), after a year-long stay
in Virginia, was selected for the '93 Girls ODP Regional
Pool.
Congratulations to Allie, Brad, and Cody.
Coastal U14 Boys Thunder are
Region 1 Finalists
July 10, 2006
The Coastal U14 Boys Thunder went
where no team from Maine has gone before: to the Region
1 finals. There, they lost a close match to Maryland,
1-0.
The Thunder posted a 2-0-1 record in group play over
the weekend at the Region 1 Championships in Virginia
Beach, Va., registering wins over West Virginia and Penn
West, and posting a draw with Virginia. That record
matched Virginia's, necessitating a tie-breaker PK
shootout to determine the team to advance to the semis.
The Thunder won the shootout, moving on to meet FC Delco
of Eastern Pennsylvania, who they beat 1-0 in the
semifinal match on Monday morning.
In Tuesday's final match, the Thunder lost 1-0 to
Maryland. Despite the loss, this is a remarkable
achievement for the U14 Boys. No team from Maine had
ever advanced to the Region I
Championship match.
Based on their semifinal win, the Thunder earned a spot
in the Region 1 Premier League for the Spring 2007
season. Congratulations, Thunder!
Other Coastal teams also turned in respectable
results at Region 1. The U15 Boys Hurricanes posted a
record of 1-1-1, with a win over Vermont, a draw with
Connecticut, and a loss to Massachusetts, eventual
finalists in the tournament.
The U16 Boys posted a 1-2-0 record, with a win over
Vermont and close losses to Massachusetts, last year's
national champions, and to Eastern New York.
The U17 Boys Crew posted two draws after an opening
game loss to Eastern Pennsylvania, tying New Hampshire
and Penn West.
Overall, the four Coastal teams had a +3 goal
differential, scoring 19 goals while giving up only 16.
In contrast, the remaining 10 teams representing Maine
in the Boys and Girls divisions also scored 19 goals,
but yielded 99.
Coastal Summer Challenge a great
success
June 28, 2006
The 2006 Coastal Summer Challenge
went off without a hitch last weekend. Nearly 150 teams
from New Jersey to the Maritimes came to Brunswick over
the Father's Day weekend and played spirited, high-level
soccer. Despite the high temperatures and unrelenting
sun, a good time was had by all at beautiful Bowdoin
College. Thanks to our sponsors, volunteers, parents,
and most of all, to our great participants. We hope to
see you all next year.

Memorial Day tournament recap
May 25, 2006
Many Coastal teams traveled out of state last weekend
to match up against the best clubs around at several
Memorial Day tournaments.
Coastal teams traveled to Massachusetts (U10 Boys
Coastal FC in Wellesley, U11 Girls Current in Devens,
and the U13 Boys Storm in Needham), Connecticut (U14
Boys Thunder and U15 Boys Hurricanes at Oakwood) and
Maryland (U16 Boys and the U17 Boys Crew at Potomac).
The U10 Boys Coastal FC turned in a record of
2-4-0 at the Wellesley U10 Memorial Day tournament,
playing well against teams from suburban Boston.
The U11 Girls Current took on some of
Massachusetts’s finest teams in 11v11 competition at the
John Smith/Inter Bandits 2006 Memorial Day Soccer
Tournament, turning in a record of 1-2-0. After starting slowly against Western United SC in
their first match, the Current improved their play in
the second half, but came out on the losing end of an
0-6 score. Next, the Current met Elite SA from Framingham, MA.,
coming out on top with a 1-0 victory at the end of 60
grueling minutes under the hot summer sun. In their
final game, the Current struggled to hold off the quick
and talented Charles River United Soccer Club, losing
1-6 despite picking up their game in the second half.
The U11 Boys Crew2 went to Framingham for the
FUSC Memorial Day Sportsmanship Classic, where they
turned in a 2-2-0 record against strong U12 competition.
They lost their opener to the U12 Franklin Scorch by a
score of 1-3, but rebounded with a solid 5-2 win against
undefeated and indoor tournament U12 champion Wellesley
United Strikers. Next up were the undefeated U12 Newton
Kickers, winners of the last two meetings between the
teams. The Kickers jumped out to a lead, but the Crew2
fought hard and came back to win the game 2 to 1. The
Crew2 fell in the last game 0-9 to the undefeated
Brookline Spartans, a team featuring three Mass ODP
players, and a squad that some say is the best U12 team
in Massachusetts.
The U13 Boys Storm turned in a respectable
1-1-1 record at the Needham Invitational Memorial Day
tournament, giving up a division-best one goal over
their three games and finishing second in their bracket.
Saturday's matches saw a 3-0 win over Guilford (CT) and
a 0-1 loss to the Stingers (MA), followed on Sunday by a
0-0 draw against a strong Terryville (NY) team who
advanced to semifinal play at the expense of the Storm.
At the Oakwood Premier Invitational tournament, the
U14 Boys Thunder turned in a 1-0-2 record with
ties against Western United (1-1) and Clifton Park
Premier (0-0), and a 3-1 win over Bruno United. The
Thunder finished second in their bracket (nearly
advancing as the wildcard) to eventual
champion Western United.
Also at Oakwood, the U15 Boys Hurricanes went
undefeated in group play, beating World Class (CT) 3-0,
Clifton Park (NY) 2-0 and Western United (MA) 3-2, and
advancing to the semifinal round where they matched up
against Massachusetts powerhouse Boston Blast. After a
scoreless first half with several scoring opportunities
by both sides, Boston converted on a loose ball in the
box following a corner kick. During a very physical and
up-tempo game the Hurricanes pushed to recover but could
not capitalize, losing to the Blast, the eventual
tournament winners, by a score of 0-1.
At the Potomac Memorial Tournament in Maryland, the
Coastal U16 Boys turned in a 0-1-2 record, with
draws against Maryland's MSC Dragons (1-1) and RFC '89
of Virginia (0-0) and a loss to PDA Socrates (NJ), 0-4.
Also at Potomac, the U17 Boys Crew, tallied a
win (Bethesda Bullets - 1-0), a loss (PA Classics - 2-4)
and a tie (Ajax of Illinois 1-1).
Coastal Crew crowned Maine champs for 6th time
May 25, 2006
The Coastal Crew U-17 Boys recently won their record
sixth straight State championship, and will travel to
Virginia Beach over the July 4th weekend to compete in
Region 1 Championships against state championship teams
from all over the East Coast.
The Crew have represented Maine in Regional
Competition since they were U12s, in Buffalo, NY,
Kingston, RI and Virginia Beach, Va.
The Crew also recently won their bracket in Northeast
Region 1 Premier League to advance to playoffs on June
17th and 18th. The Crew defense was outstanding in both
State Cup play and Northeast Region 1 competition,
conceding no goals in eight straight matches while
scoring a total of twenty goals against teams from
Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.
The Crew travels to Potomac, Maryland over Memorial
Day weekend to compete in the prestigious Adidas Potomac
Memorial Day Tournament.
Coastal Hurricanes claim State Championship
May 9, 2006
The Coastal U15 Boys Hurricanes were crowned State
champs on May 7, beating the Odyssey U15s 2-1 in a close
battle at Bowdoin College.
Two late-game goals sealed the championship for the
Hurricanes, who captured both State Cup games from
Odyssey this year. The Hurricanes won three straight
from their southern Maine rivals, opening the season
with a Northeast Region win.
Sunday's win reclaims the state title from Odyssey
that the Coastal boys had last won as U13's.
Congratulations Hurricanes!
